A Year In The Life Of...

As a child, I always loved looking at and playing with my Grandad’s cameras. When I began a tertiary course for a Media Studies degree back in 1987, I took on a Major in Photography, but left the studies early to manage my family’s business instead. However, I have always loved capturing great images from my life, feeling there is something special about creating a keepsake of what my eyes once saw, as a reminder of what I experienced.

These days, I still love photography and am more serious about it than ever before. Over the years I’ve distilled my passion to just two focus points:

Rock ‘n’ Roll Music Photographer

Rock'n'Roll Photography by Paul MilesLet there be light, sound, drums, 'n guitar – Let there be rock! Over the years I have enjoyed shooting a vast array of rock music photography: everything from international rock concerts in stadiums and arenas, down to local gigs in corner pubs, to candid backstage and travel moments touring across Australia and Japan with rock bands.

If you’re looking for a freelance rock photographer based in Melbourne for an upcoming live rock concert, gig or festival, or a band promotional shoot on location for album artwork etc., simply contact me to discuss details of your assignment.
New Portfolio and galleries coming soon.

Graveyard and Cemetery Photography

Graveyard Photography by Paul MilesAway from loud rock music venues, I feel the most peaceful location to shoot is the graveyard. Sometimes dark and haunting, at others bright and colourful, it is a place to capture and create many beautiful moods. The sky becomes an ever-changing backdrop to shoot brilliantly weathered symbols of people’s lives that once were.

As I wander through old cemeteries wherever I am in the world, it is always a reminder of my own mortality, which I use to inspire me to make the absolute most of my time now, before life expires. It’s also a bit of good outdoor exercise, walking around in the fresh air discovering and admiring the most elaborate and artistic cemetery monuments from all angles. Respect.
New Gallery coming soon.
